After Anmeldung: deciding what to update next
How to use your registration certificate as a starting point for the ordinary address updates that follow.
Registration closes one task and often unlocks several others. Resist trying to complete everything on the same afternoon. First, store the certificate and scan a copy for your records.
List dependencies
Banking, insurance, an employer, a university, utilities and other organisations may each need an address update, but their methods differ. Make a list based on the relationships you actually have. Note which requests require the certificate and which accept an online address change.
Watch the letterbox
Make sure your surname is visible where post is delivered. Official correspondence may arrive after registration, and missing a letter can be more troublesome than waiting a day to update a loyalty account.
Keep categories separate
Anmeldung is not the same as immigration permission or tax registration. If a letter raises a status question, use the contact details on that letter or seek advice from the appropriately qualified professional.
